The House

 Completely remodeled in the summer of 2004, Casa de las Palomas features:

You enter the house through a large patio garden with a fountain.  It is shaded by a flowering Mexican Parariso tree.  Opening into the patio through french doors is the main living room with television and gas fireplace.  The large kitchen also opens to the patio through separate french doors. It is fully equipped with a gas stove, refrigerator, small appliances, kitchenware and talavera tableware. 

The separate dining room features an old mesquite table seating eight.  The ground floor also has a full bath. In addition there is a garage.

The master bedroom with king-sized bed is on the second floor. The master suite includes a dressing area, bathroom and a private terrace. The guest bedroom, on the second floor, has a queen bed and opens onto a separate balcony. It has a separate bathroom. There is ample closet space in both bedrooms.

The top floor has a small office equipped with two desks, a computer with high speed internet access and telephone.  If requested, we can remove a desk and put in a daybed which will turn it into a third bedroom.  The top office opens out onto a large rooftop terrace with a seating area, citrus trees and views of the Parroquilla, Las Monjas, Mercado de San Juan de Dios and other San Miguel sights.  There also is a separate laundry area with lines and electric washer/ gas dryer on the top floor.

 As you can see from the photographs, the entire house has been done in traditional Mexican style, with ample use of local Talavera tile and handcrafted design.  The decorations include works by a number of famous Mexican folk art masters. The house is fully furnished including dishes, kitchen equipment, and luxury linens.

The Location

Casa de las Palomas is located in the Centro Colonia of San Miguel de Allende, close to everything.  Umaran is one of the town’s main east/west streets and leads uphill directly to the central Jardin.  The Jardin and Instituto Allende are each about a 10-minute walk from the house.  The largest market in town, Mercado San Juan de Dios, is a stones throw away.

The  Rental Terms

The house is currently rented and will be available again in April 2006.  Rent is US$2200 per month. Maid service three days a week is provided. Rent also includes basic Telmex telephone service for 50 calls per month, cable television service and high-speed internet service.  Since there is a wide variation in use, renters are responsible for the cost of propane and electricity beyond a $100/month allowance.  There is a $500 deposit required to cover damage, long distance and extra telephone calls, electricity and propane.
